SLEEPY
March, 2007 UPDATE -- I have a new home!!

Sleepy's story:

Sleepy was an owner give up, he came through a local police dept. He was hit by a family members car and left for dead. When the neighbor found him laying on a driveway she went to get the owner. The family, thinking he was dead, put him in a plastic bag and was going to bury him. Then their little girls said the bag was moving and Sleepy was not dead he was knocked unconscious. The police got involved because the neighbor thought that the family hurt him on purpose and wanted the dog put in a safer place. We were told that the family left him outside a lot in all kinds of weather and never seemed to pay that much attention to him.

So my Vet's office got the call on August 11th and went to pick him up. The next day the owners had to come into the vets office to relinquish their rights. When they left Sleepy became a different dog, giving kisses sitting on laps trying to run although he could not. He was glad to be inside and being loved.

When the vet examined him they found that his muscle in his hind leg needed to be repaired. They did x-rays, scans etc. to see all what was going on inside him. He just needed his hind leg worked on so he could walk and not drag it. So they did blood work before surgery and it came back abnormal. Needless to say they could not do the surgery that next day and did an ultra sound and another x-ray. They found a bruise on his kidney, which was caused from the car hitting him, so that needed to be cleared before surgery. All this time Sleepy had been the happiest pugster around. Loving the fact that he had all the attention which he did not have before as a pug/dog should have.

After the bruise healed they did the surgery and he rehabilitated wonderfully. Runs everywhere, he does get tired, but has done great. So Sleepy was ready for me, his foster mommy, to come pick him up on Nov. 6th. He fit in great here. At first he lifted his leg so the belly band was on 24-7 but now he only has it to sleep in and when I'm not home. I really think he does not need it even that much but a lot goes on in my house and I can't be everywhere all the time.

When he came to me he was on 3 different eye meds because of ulcers and I did not want the new family to have to deal with all of that. My Vet told me that he should have the small eyelid tumor removed and his eyes tucked in on the inside corners (both of these reason is what was causing the ulcers). So back into the vets office we went to talk things over and we scheduled surgery and while he was under they removed a fatty cyst that was on his back. All went well.

Sleepy is a complete love, great with kids, loves attention and loves to sleep/snore in bed with me. He is 7 years young as of 12/27/06.

UPDATE: 12/28/06: Sleepy's stitches were removed and he will only need to have 1 med for his eyes for the future. His surgery on his eyes went very well. He is such a lover! Loves to take walks, all in all just a great doggie!

Gunnar
March, 2007
I HAVE JUST BEEN ADOPTED!!!

Thankfully through the help of some very dedicated volunteers Gunnar has been saved from a life of neglect. Gunnar has lived his short life of 16 months on a chain outside, intended to be used solely as a stud dog. On the occasion that his owners let him inside he was admittedly kept exclusively in a kennel. Gunnar is being neutered and learning house manners. He loves to play with other dogs, has a lot of energy and loves to cuddle.

BUDDY AKA KENNY January, 2007 -- I have a new home!

Approx. 3yrs old, neutered male, 25 lbs, fawn. Came to GLPC Rescue as a stray. Buddy is athletic and energetic ... a powerfully built Pug w/ not an ounce of fat on him. He is a quick learner and eager to please. He can live w/ other dogs and older children. He has a leg-lifting issue making him not reliable to run unattended thru the house. His foster home is working on this behavior. Buddy is crate trained. As Pugs go, Buddy is one of the most beautiful orange, apricot colored Pugs I have seen in a long time.

HARLEY

December, 2006 I HAVE NEW HOME!!!

Harley Harley is 3 years old, a bigger boy at 28lbs, and could afford to take off a few. Harley is a huge lover and cuddler and gets along with children of all ages. He also get's along very well with other pugs and really likes to play. Harley came to us with some marking issues however he takes corrections well and this issue seems to be getting better fast. We think Harley would really like to be in a home with a child around 8 or so who he can chum around with and be buddies. Please watch for updates on this wonderful guy.

11/19/06 Harley Update: He has proven himself to be a quick learner. He has done well learning basic commands and hasn't had an incident of marking in weeks, yeah Harley!!!!

SOPHIE -- 12/06 I HAVE A NEW HOME!!

Sophie in her new homeSophie is 3-1/2 years old and has the sweetest disposition. She wants to be near her people, very near, as in sleeping curled up on your lap. She prefers to sleep on the bed too. She is a snuggler. She is housebroken and appears to be good with children and other dogs.

Sophie requires DAILY application of cyclosporine ointment, "Optimmune," to her Right eye that has dry eye, a common pug affliction. Her ears need cleaning frequently because she was born with very narrow ear canals which accumulate dirt easily. She was an owner surrender because her family could not provide the daily attention to her needs and she arrived with an infection in the right eye.

Mogawii -- I HAVE A NEW HOME!!!

Mogawii came to us after her elderly owner passed away. She had been loved very much. However her owner never realized that she kept suffering from urinary tract infections (UTI's) so therefore Mogawii was never treated with antibiotics to get rid of the infection which caused blood in her urine and bladder stones. Once GLPC received her she went in for a vet check up and had x-rays done. We found that her body had formed at least 4 huge stone so we decided that surgery was was the only way to get rid of them and get Mogawii on the road to recovery. She had her bladder surgery and is the happiest pugger around. She is up to date on all of her shots and has already been spayed.

Mogawii's birthday is January 15, 1997 which in number's makes her 9 1/5 but in reality she acts like she's only 6. She is very happy, playful, very clean house dog, on the larger size weighing in at about 24.2 lbs. When I come home she is right there to greet me with a toy, the first item she can find! She plays well with other dogs of all sizes, all ages of children and all-in-all a GREAT pug. She is eating Science Diet Senior Small bites and is doing well on this. She truly is a love.

August, 2006 I HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!

Buster

Buster was an owner surrender as his person worked long hours and traveled a lot. His person was concerned that Buster was not getting the attention that he deserved. Buster is about 18 months old, neutered, housebroken and gets along well with other dogs, cats and people. He likes to play with toys and with other dogs.

Tiger and Puck

We both have new homes!

Tiger and Puck are brothers although they are from different litters. They were surrendered by a couple that got divorced and neither could keep the dogs in their new living arrangement. They both are gentle and good with children. They both love to go for walks to take care of business and disdain kennel runs.

Tiger, is a black neutered male who will be 4 years old in June. He is the most playful and outgoing personality of the two. His former owner said he was a cuddler. He looks like he had mange or an allergy because he has a some thin spots in his coat but the owner said it was growing back in.

Puck, is a neutered fawn male who will be 5 years old in November. He has been shy and quiet. The owner said he was the watchdog of the two and will bark when anyone comes over. Puck had unsuccessful surgery on his left ulnar when he was younger to try and correct a growth deformity. His left foot angles out, but it does not seem to bother him.

LUCY (2)

I HAVE A NEW HOME!

lucy, fawn pugHi my name is Lucy, I am fawn colored and I will be 3 on May 11th, 2006. My family gave me up b/c my new mommy was very allergic. My foster mommy says I am a good girl, very pretty and I need the right home to take care of me. You see I have some skin allergies and I also need a little more training in the potty department. I am eating Eukanuba Fish & Potato and have a benadryl pill when needed, I'm doing REALLY well when I eat only this type of food. So I will need to be on it forever. You can get it from your Vets office and because I only eat 3/4 cup a day it's not expensive at all. My foster mommy has her own pug dog that has the same type of "seasonal" allergies and she is doing great after being on the Rx food from the Vet. Other than that I'm really warming up to my foster siblings and coming out of my shell. My tail is up all the time now unless I'm barking at the dogs next door, ya know I need to keep them in place. I am up to date on all my shots, I even have a micro chip and my foster mommy says I have very pretty eyes.

Fred, fawn pugI HAVE A NEW HOME!

Fred was surrendered to the Humane Society because the family has a baby on the way. He is a lively, 7 year old neutered fawn male. He gets along well with his foster home's other Pugs, He is crate trained and housebroken. He barks a bit but not excessively.. His shots are all up to date, he tested negative for heartworm and had his teeth cleaned. He has a slightly luxating patella.
